greenMANTUA began as an effort in 2016 to achieve Eco-School designation for Mantua Elementary under the National Wildlife Federation program. In 2017 we were able to obtain Bronze certification, with the goal of Silver certification in 2018 and Green Flag certification in 2019. Our initial focus is in two key areas: Creating Habitats and Improving Consumption and Waste.
In 2016-2017 the greenMANTUA team was able to build a schoolyard habitat and create a new habitat on top of our new bioretention facility. We have also worked to create a pollinator garden for the school.
We are equally committed to reducing consumption and waste in the school and are working to increase our recylcing efforts and donation of unused food items.
